Welcome

Welcome to the website for the Centre for Freshwater Ecosystem Management and Modelling at Massey University.

The Centre for Freshwater Ecosystem Management and Modelling was established at Massey University to draw together research skills where developments in theoretical ecology and ecological modelling can be applied in new and novel ways to addressing current issues in freshwater ecosystem management, conservation and bioassessment.

Objectives

  • Conduct high quality research on freshwater ecosystems.
  • Apply heuristic and neural network modelling to understanding how freshwater ecosystems function.
  • Utilise that understanding to address freshwater management decisions in new and novel ways.
  • To raise the profile of freshwater ecosystem modelling management to the broader community, and to contribute to the discourse;
  • To conduct research on all aspects of freshwater ecosystems that engage the expertise and interest of researchers from all science disciplines;
  • To work with academics from other disciplines and other tertiary institutions where appropriate;
  • To produce research of the best academic standards and aim for publication in 'A' grade journals;
  • To produce publications for the lay person - business, government, community - which help to foster the discourse of sustainable management of freshwaters in New Zealand;
